OCTOBER

OCTOBER

One Day

Standing over a life from up above I can see, as the bird does, it is made up of a day, one day, many times over throughout the entirety of one’s existence but there is, in fact, only one day.

I wonder how many of those days are left in the bottle. Croce said if words could make wishes come true, he would save every day like a treasure

As do I

I wonder how quickly the moments that lie ahead will pass

How many days will slip illusively through my fingers. far too fast

And how many will carry on unkindly

Some will surely contain too much to grasp and others–not nearly enough to satisfy

What will these days become? What will these moments create?

As a paintbrush before the canvas I stand before them here

God, give me strength to do the work of both reaching and releasing

How many thank you’s will be uttered from these lips? Never enough to do the giver justice

May I see more & more, the opportunity to utter groans of gratitude

There is so much fear that I won't utilize these days properly, that I will squander the gift of each second & minute

But we haven't much time for that

God, give me resolve to show up in mind, heart, and body despite the fluctuations of these coming moments.

To step through the great threshold of each new day amidst the ever-present fear.

If there are woes, so be it

Surely, these coming days hold hurt and disappointment. Surely there will be moments of great misunderstanding & of deep sadness

I trust that it will not be smooth, nor easy or clean, but God I pray it will be good

One precious day to build one precious life

WHAT I AM LISTENING TO THIS OCTOBER

These songs are like a cozy blanket. This month I am craving rich lyrics that transport me to a cabin porch in the mountains of North Carolina…coffee in hand of coarse.

OCTOBER STYLE

I am jumping into a little JCrew catalog circa…better days. Additionally, Lady Di has proven to be my greatest inspiration when it comes to workout fits. Im on the hunt for college sweaters, bulky ankle socks, retro running shoes, quarter zips and bike shorts. I did find a few of these items on good ol’ Amazon which can be found HERE. JCrew has so many relaxed preppy pieces in fall. LOVE.

MUST BE THE SEASON OF THE WITCH

Another huge piece of inspiration for outfits this month has been “witchy style” inspired by films and tv shows like— The Witches of East Wick, Charmed, Practical Magic & The Craft. Free People appears to have scouted these iconic shows because the picks above are— *spot on* chefs kiss* molto bene*—almost like magiccc.

GIRL GANG HALLOWEEN

When I get asked if I celebrate Halloween, I hesitate because on the one hand, I despise the devilish-satanic tendency that the day brings in some cases. However, I DO adore pumpkin carving, dressing up with friends, walking neighborhoods at dusk with your favorite kiddos and looting all the best candy. October 31st is so nostalgic! If you know anything about me you know I am nothing but nostalgic. It’s fun to go down memory lane and look at old disposable prints of costumes throughout the years ,visit your childhood neighborhood or see the autumnal celebration through the eyes of children. This year I am reminded that sometimes holidays or nostalgic dates make people melancholy because they aren’t in a place in their life where those celebrations are fully received or traditionally depicted. There can be so much satisfaction in creating the most beautiful celebration, exactly where you are. We have absolute creative capacity to make seasonal celebrations anything and everything that brings joy, beauty, fun and memories. Bring all your people together (whatever that looks like) and be willing to receive the beauty of your PRESENT life. If you just moved to a new town and don’t have many people— buy your favorite candy, light a bunch of candles & turn on your favorite halloween movie. If you are a mom and miss the good ol’ days when you would have outrageous house parties ‘once upon a time’—invite over all the girls, have the dads or babysitters take the kids out to the streets, turn on Coconut by Harry Nilsson and recreate that scene from Practical Magic. You know the one! If you long for the day when you get to walk kids of your own around the neighborhood— reach out to your friends, siblings, and neighbors and join them. Let their joy be your joy! If, however, you find yourself in need of a costume idea for you and your gals, I put together some ideas above. Wishing you all the chocolate lips, pillow case bags, tiny giggles, sugar highs and the sweet echo of ‘trick-or-treat’.

NEW YORKER PRINTS

I love looking up different “New Yorker” magazine covers throughout all the seasons. Turns out they sell prints of these iconic covers on Etsy! Guess I’m not the only one who loves them. I’ll be v busy building a little collection of all my favorites to hang up.
