“A Love Like Summer”
”I think we all just want a summer love”. “No”, she replied “I want a love like summer”
Summer waits for one one and comes when ready, making the arrival that much sweeter. When it has arrived the warmth is all around and expands within. The origin can’t be isolated, it radiates past bone and intellect and perhaps fear.
It permeates the compartments we have created and reaches everything. Every little piece of life is touched and warmed by it.
The normalcy and duties of practical life appear a little hazy. Safety, social constructs, 9 to 5 jobs, 401ks, schedules–they start to shuffle behind the richer realities of life— like a juicy strawberry or swan dive into the Amalfi, maybe a board game by the fire or a story under the stars. The joys that summer offers operate outside numerical value or monetary gain; they are intrinsically priceless, never expensive. If you give anything up for summer you are far better off for it. Anything surrendered in that season is due to divine orchestration
The fog that has accumulated in your life seems to dissipate in the summer, you're far closer to childhood than you thought.
A wisdom lives here that does not exist in universities but baffles the greatest minds.
Lack is never in the inherent nature of summer, always in the metabolization of it.
“That” she said, “is the kind of love worth waiting through all the other seasons for”
Dancing with Life
In pursuit of the ‘highlights’ of life we forget. We forget about life itself, the beautiful unfolding, the process, the full spectrum of intellect, emotion and experience. Instead we hone in on those “greater pursuits” of success, acclaim, affirmation and love. We abandon many pursuits in search of a ‘great love’ the kind that turns a tuesday afternoon into the most splendid of days, the kind that takes our world and flips it upside down…or right side up.
The kind that makes everything clearer, fuller, better.
One day we might come to recognize that all seeking of love is in itself a love affair. A dance with the divine. A great surrender as you follow in step with the marvelous mystery of the days you have in between being born and being buried. Finding someone to share that higher call of ‘living out of love’ is just a beautiful catalyst to fully commit and engage with the dance. But you are, indeed, dancing with LIFE.
As they all come and go, as we feel the high highs and low lows we might rediscover our first great love– LIFE.
Its been life all along. It is life that is the constant dance partner, the deepest love, the best companion. You might never fully know her but isn't she grand?
“Lost and found “
Every. Single. Decision brings loss and gain
Every. Single. Choice comes with grief and celebration
No matter how small, impermanent or inconsequential.
This is the bargain of freewill
This is the game of life.
If we can grieve and welcome simultaneously, in equal parts and with a clear heart, we might be able to let go of what is lost, embrace what is coming, and have peace in the dance.
Indecision often comes from the debate we have with ourselves over what is lost vs. what is gained. (Queue the pro con list).
But far beyond the actual gain and loss is our process.
Why do we value what we do?
Why do we want what we want?
What do we think we need?
It's in the loss we find what we want
It's in the gain we refine what we need
