SEPTEMBER
DOING VS BEING
Everyone asks “how do I find it?”
Balance, love, success, peace…
Instead of “how can I make it?”
What if we took all of the energy we use searching and turn it to fostering
What if we took all the moments we spent assessing what we could take and asked ourselves what we were able to give?
What if we stopped feeling like we were missing out and tapped in
Stopped wondering “when?” and started doing what we could now
Stopped figuring out and started becoming apart of the process
Stopped: manipulating, organizing, fixing and trying and started: receiving, appreciating reveling and being.
Perhaps, we would find the pieces falling together when we replace our ‘doing’ with our ‘being’
What I am listening to this September…
“Economy”
“What are you going to do?” they say. “You need to make money”.
Aw that's right, I almost forgot. En-route to life's softer pursuits I forgot about survival. I forgot the weight that money and shelter and civility carry here on the ground. My eyes, set on the light of life. My mouth, watering for the bread of god. I have forgotten physical needs need meeting, skin needs protection from the elements and stomachs need food for digesting.
So then, what bank do I deposit in or realm do I invest?
My economy? the whispers we make before falling to sleep, the chemical reaction when the rising sun promises gifts in the coming day, the moment you decide death to be the kindest, quickest call to rich living.
My commodity? peace bought with the tears of one thousand nights of unanswered prayers and the surrendering of any desire that doesn't offer a refining fire.
My hierarchy? Built upon the hearts of those who have chosen the road less traveled and terrain less recognizable, driven by a mission unavoidable, unable to deny themselves the deeper callings that most successfully repress.
That is what i’m going to do for a living.
AESTHETIC INSPIRATION FOR THIS MONTH
This September I am diving deep into a look that can only be described as: Parisian ‘back to school’ meets leading lady of a romcom (think Andy Anderson & Elizabeth James). What does that entail exactly?
Everyday outfits that revolve around simple classics: a white tank, good Levis, a light grey or beige sweater, & high-waisted, wide-leg pants.
Hair that is either naturally curled or maybe even a new curtain bang with layers. However, you must proceed with caution because we all know the trail of tears that bangs have created in history. Couple those locks with a neutral beanie or, dare I say, Beret.
Accessories are the real star of the September show:
Dark (smaller than usual) sunglasses that could be found on Rachel Green or Gillian from Practical Magic. I put together a little bundle of my picks on Amazon.
A feminine metal watch like this one.
When I think of Parisian style I always think of a fresh, flushed face. Westman Atelier has the best color palette of cream blushes for any skin tone.
Finally, what would September Parisian/90s style be without a nice glass of chilled red wine? Tabla has one of the best chilled reds i’ve had in the past year, and doubles as the perfect gift for September babies!
For your entertainment here are two articles that I discovered this month that had me giggling: Welcome to Mary Oliver Garden, What Is & Is Not a Vibe
Enjoy watching the slow turn of earths’ clock this month!
Happy September
